I'm wondering if you can get the mall to cover the cost. You might
write a polite letter explaining to them what happened, what the
insurance company covered, etc.
You might mention the following in your letter:
a) Perhaps they might increase security, and add the parking areas to
the patrolled area for security
b) That cameras should have been installed so that the theives could
have been caught on film.
Keep on them, and keep on responding until you get a satisfactory
answer. Writing a letter is more impressive than a simple phone call.
If you don't get any action, try writing to your local newspaper, an
open letter (read the letters policy, sometimes they require you to
address your letter to the editor) or a letter to the editor about
your experiences.
Verbage to use would be "reasonable security isn't provided", "lack
of action to prevent such crimes in the future", and "bloodsucking
leeches at the mall who refuse to take the profits from your shopping
dollar to prevent theft and damage to you, their clients by beefing
up security and installing cameras.".
Other tips to reduce or minimize damages in the future:
a) Use a stock stereo. Criminals don't steal them. I wonder why? :)
b) Keep all your receipts.
c) Take photographs of your equipment, as installed in your car.
d) Write down serial numbers, so that the police can identify
recovered stolen goods and potentially return it to you when the
bastards eventually get caught.
e) One word. Kraaco(sp?). Noone ever stole a Kraaco deck.
