Sortof OT: Feasible for a Corrado???

My best friend just bought herself a new (well, 1993) corrado SLC.  This car 
is in immaculate shape, 85 k miles on the clock, black on black leather, and 
all the goodies.

Here's where it gets interesting....
She talked to the dealer and they said that it was the original owner who 
traded it in.  They also told her the original owner had special ordered it 
from england, with all the options on it.  The dealer thought it might be a 
2.9liter.  I have my doubts, but I really don't know one way or another.  
Could this be possible, to have a 2.9liter Corrado in the United States?  

Is there a way to test or check the car to see? BTW, all gauges are in MPH, 
not KPH.  Anything help would be great.
