Hi, I'm hoping to hear that Paul Pierce doesn't have nerve damage to his
hands or that sort of thing, like Bird on his shooting hand after his
fishing accident prior to his rookie year. It seems likely Pierce put his
hands up to protect himself from the knife. Seven inch blade?

I love that Pierce is telling people he'll show up at the start of
training camp (the legend of Paul grows in my mind), but wait until he tries
to sit up or walk. Any deep incision at the midsection of the body makes you
realize just how important those little muscles are for any kind of
movement. Twirl your pinkie and you'd feel a major stab of pain down there.
Pierce will be in terrible pain for many weeks and stands at risk of
becoming addicted to pain killers as well. Like BSG says, I don't think we
should raise expectations for him to rush back. He also needs to fully
recover psychologically. It's not like the NBA will let him play from now on
in a leather jacket. Or that Monica Seles will need to start dating him.
Thank god he's alive. Really it is a miracle to be talking about that kid in
the present tense.

BTW, am I the only one wandering what Battie was doing coming out of
there apparently without a scar? It's like "hey Tony, your best friend over
there just got stabbed for the ninth, uh, make that the eleventh time...."
If Potapenko had been there, he'd have jacked the perpetrator up and
launched his head threw the ceiling. Xavier McDaniel, Dave Cowens, Danny
Fortson, all those guys would have gone nuts and done the same thing if
someone laid a hand on either a best friend or teammate, instead of
apparently trying to blend in among the taller pool cues leaning on the
wall. I'm not saying Bat Girl should have stopped the fight, but you'd at
least expect to hear he was in the mix enough to require a little collateral
medical attention afterward. Those other ex-Celtics guys played power
forward, not power fairy. Pitino apparently has Bat Girl pencilled in as a
starter next year in the headless chicken outbreak. Maybe he'll even be a
starting center (laugh track). Hey don't say I didn't warn you all. That
position takes heart, not just hops. I'm stating the obvious here.
