Just like it reads: Unconditional support for Pete Townshend.
No "what ifs" necessary. Support for Pete, not for any negative actions he
did - should that turn out to be the case. Love the sinner, hate the sin
would be the order of the day.

>You would believe your friend, but would this mean you would
approve of the WAY he was doing his research?

Given the current state of the laws in the U.S. and the U.K. I would not
approve this way of doing research. Even a bona fide journalist here in the
US was convicted of trafficing in child porn while doing such research. Apart
from the legal jeopardy is the support such viewing gives the porn industry.
As Pete said in ADB , "by visiting their websites - we directly and
effectively subsidise pornographers."

>What would your actions be?
>Would you support your friend? How?

That would depend on the case. If they were trying to be vigilantes I would
refer them to legitimate resources like the Center for Missing and Exploited
Children and to a few news articles on FBI and USPS stings. If they were
directly endangering children I would report them to the police. If they were
drawn to viewing child porn I would refer them to a Twelve Step program for
sex addiction, as Pete noted, "probably the only way out for some ensnared by
addiction to what the internet has to offer."

In the end though, assuming they were a friend and had a genuine desire to
change for the better, I would support THEM, no "what-ifs" necessary.
