Half a whole - Who's Left

>ANNNNNT! Wrong!

Thank you. I didn't have the strength to write that, yet again, and again,
and again.

>And I thought *I* had an active fantasy life! No, sadly, Jenny's way of
rebelling is to not like The Who at all in any way shape or form.

Oh man. Sorry to hear that. Damn.
She doesn't like *any* who songs at all?
Not a one?
How can that be??
Seems a bit like cutting off your foot despite yourself (or something like
that).

>She's a Beatles fan

Well, that's cool. So am I.

>and got mad at me when I tricked her into going to the Abbey Road show
featuring Entwistle.

Baahahahahah! Oh man, that's good.

> At least she saw ONE of them live. But she still brings it up from time to
time.

Can she at the minimum admit he was talented?
Can she at least step back and see the majesty?
Well, at least she knows John's name.
So, between your daughter and Jon's daughter, we have two people who have
never been to a Who concert and they *both* know the name of J. Entwistle.
Ha!

>> No, not good enough.
>
>OK, well I guess I won't even come for the party, then.

Wait, this is a 'no pity party' zone. Wipe off that boo-boo face.

 >Too bad, I thought you wanted me to. My mistake.

What, you been taking guilt-button pressing lessons from my mom?

>> There are already plans to drug your ass and drag you in.
>
>Yeah, good luck on that one! Ha ha ha!

So, then, let me understand this.
You'll go to the venue. You'll hang out in the parking lot with us. You'll
drink my beer. You'll smoke 'all of my stuff'. You'll wear your Who "W"
shirt.
BUT! But, when we then go into the venue, you'll turn and go to your car
and drive home, instead of going to hear some great music and see the
greatest guitarist around play his ass off?
You'll pass on seeing Roger march around the stage?
You'll pass on sharing the experience, what ever it may be, with the rest of
us?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like a political statement.
A formal protest, if you will.
If so, then why not go the logical step further and picket at the front gate
instead of going home?
You could come up with a catchy phrase.....like....
"Hell no, I won't go. It's not The Who, so fuck this show!"
Or,
"He died, they sighed, but if they call it The Who, they lied!"
Or,
"Roses are Red, this isn't The Who, I won't go see them, how 'bout you?!"
Or,
"Stop the madness! To call them The Who brings sadness!"
Or,
"The Who is dead, I'm going to bed!"

You get the idea.

>No? SCOTTTT! You said...

Can you believe that?
He took his Who/Pete anger and left the sandbox.
You think he's hiding in fear?

>Damn, did the temperature just drop in here?

That's what I was thinking when I was left hanging like that.
Sheesh.

>Diminish THIS, you little be-otch!

So, I see you got my point. ;-)

>>But, as he grows older, we'll just send him Depends and kick back with our
memories of a Mark long past his prime.
>>Growing old sucks.
>
>So what are you saying about Pete and Roger? Who are at least ten years
older than I am?

That of course they're diminished from their prime. Roger's voice isn't
what it was. But, it's still quite good. Damn good, if I may say so.
And, actually, I'd argue that Pete's guitar playing is *better* than it was.
His talent is definitely better. Oh, yeah, well perhaps he can't jump as
high as he used to, but I don't think you can question his playing. I think
it's getting better.
So, the only thing that has diminished from 2000 when you went to a show, is
bass.
John won't be replaced, but hopefully there will be a bassist that will do
the rest of "The Band" justice.

I keep coming back to Jo's sex analogy.
She was close, but not quite on.
What she should have said is....will you stop making love to your wife
(anyone with their own wife, sorry, I'm not trying to make this personal or
anything like that), as you get older? She's likely diminished from her
prime in her late 20's.
We know Jo's tits are. Doh! ;-o
Of course you won't.
The love is still there.

>Actually, I think it MAKES my point. Without all the parts, you can't have
the whole. You just have a hole, where John used to be. You have half a
whole at best. >And I'm not even referring to Courtney Love, either.

I think Pete has a good point, that no matter what they call themselves,
there *will* be this mantle of The Who that will be there in the show.
It *will* bring back the same feel as The Who (while not necessarily the
same sound or energy).
But, I still don't think that's reason enough to not pay homage to your
fallen comrades, and put that name to rest.
The solution???
A compromise.
They should tour and produce a new album under the name of Who's Left.
It avoids the name of The Who.
Still uses the "mantle" and aura of The Who.
While showing respect to John and Keith by changing the name slightly.
