Re: Potential relay wackiness?

I know that for #4 below, if you open the sunroof, disconnect the battery, wait
a few seconds for any charges to bleed off, then reconnect, the key will then
shut the sunroof again. That happened to my '97 a while back. The others I
can't offer any advice, constructive or otherwise.

Subject: Potential relay wackiness?

I have a bit of an odd problem that's been happening since I got my Jetta back
from the autobody
shop, who of course insists that there is NO way they could be responsible for.
The problem starts
with my whole door light system being a bit screwy...

1) When the ignition is on, and the headlights are turned on (no fogs), the
little green lamp
doesn't light up. When the ignition is turned off, it all of a sudden comes on.
The fog light lamp
works fine.

2) The alarm system is REALLY wacky. I have a 96 so it doesn't have the remote
keyless
boop-bweep-boop thingy, so I do my alarming by the door lock. If I've just
driven the car, it will
randomly arm (or more specifically, honk) after between 5 and 15 seconds. The
little red light on
the door lock blinks normally though. If the car has been sitting and I unlock
and then lock, it
arms like it should. The delay seems to be somewhat related to the timing of the
dome light.....

3) The dome light. It doesn't work quite right. I can leave it on the "door"
setting, where it
should wait until like 10 secs after you close the door, then shut off
(mysteriously the same time
it takes to honk the alarm...). It seems to wait until the alarm honks, then
waits another 10
seconds, then shuts off, or something (I haven't had the patience to fully
analyze this one).

4) Holding the key in the lock position still rolls up the windows but will NOT
do anything at all
to the sunroof.

I think there's a little more weirdness in the same systems, but don't remember
or haven't tested
odd combinations of things.

Could this be a fried/backwards relay or something? I don't imagine the autobody
losers would have
done anything in my relay panel, but I don't know what would do this!

Help!! :-)

Thanks!!!
