I have heard of many people taking off the mid siut case, but I have also
heard of some simply replacing the rear section muffler with a Boral
unit. They are not too expensive, and if you add a TT cat back later, you
already have the rear section! The only reason for this as I heard was
that having straight pipe at any  angle in the middle will give
you droning. I went with the optional 2nd resonator on my cat back just
to make sure that it didn't drone like my '70 Bettle does at highway
speeds...
