It sounds more like one of your sensor switches (4 doors, trunk, hood)
is bad.  If the sensor switch is not reporting the item is not closed,
that's when you'll get a long flash, instead of the regular one.  The
alarm doesn't set itself until it senses all the doors and trunk/hood
are closed.
