Hi Chuck,

I had the Clarion Premium Audio unit in my car before I replaced it with
an awesome Kenwood. The way it worked was that whenever the ignition was
off the red security LED would blink. This is irrespective of the alarm
being armed or not.

If for any reason the power is cut to the radio, disconnected battery,
fuse, or attempted theft by removal, the unit will display "SAFE" on the
screen when power is restored. It will not be functional until the
security code is entered.

So in short, the theft protection on the stock unit is "passive," you
don't need to do anything to activate it.
