You know, all the speaker talk got me to thinking. When i went to get
my speakers, i approached the issue like i do anything else about the
car. I went to an expert. And had a variety of beers in my tunk, in a
cooler. You would be utterly amazed at how helpful and
non-fuck-you-around a service provider will be if you offer him/her a
beer.
I did this with picking my mechanic as well. I found someone who i
could talk to, and wouldn't mind talking to me, and then plied him with
beer. Not exactly plied. I noticed what beer he had in his fridge, and
then brought a 12 to him, as a gift. Now, i get amazing service, and
when i walk onto his shop, i know damn well that he's going to give me
the straight facts, without screwing me around.
Same with when i did my speaker house shopping. (Actually, my mechanic
reccomended the guy, yet another benefit of a good relationship).
Showed up, asked some questions, asured myself that the guy knew what he
was talking about, then made an excuse to have him look in my trunk,
then offered him a beer, and now we're life long friends. He phones me
up when something new and exciting comes in, and asks me to test it.
Right now, i have like 600 or 700 bucks of stuff in my car that's not
mine, but on loan.
I guess this whole message is about making relationships with people who
are doing work for you. Same as you'd take employees out to lunch, it
doesn't hurt to stroke the people working on your car. You never know
what you might get, and it's often the best "bang for your buck"
investment you're going to make.
Okay, i'm done rambling... Someone shoot me already...
