Re: The stick

I know for a fact that you DO NOT want to leave your hand on the stick. If
it moves let it move, don't try and hold it in place. This will only make
things worse. I'm not sure of all the exact terminology that is in the
transmission, but I know that theres some sort of bearing in there that
catches the gear and then locks in place. If you hold the stick then
basically what your doing is applying force to that part, which in time
will begin to round over and will stop catching the gear. Then you'll have
slips here and there, then the specific gear won't hold at all.
Transmission will be shot. The part to replace would probably only cost
roughly 100.00 or so but the labor behind pulling the
transmission.......Ughhhhh!!!! Big Bucks!!! So what I would say is if you
notice it moving slightly, continue to bring it into the dealer, try
different dealerships as well. Sometimes another opinion can save dollars.
I speak from experience on this one. The way I used to drive my Saab SPG
was pretty hard, cornering I would absentmindedly grab the stick for
support, and corner at about 60 going in then down shift to 2nd for quick
acceleration out of the corners. After awhile of doing this 2nd gear began
to slip, and slip... Now I'm at the point where I need to replace that
"inexpensive part".... Thats why I chose to pick up a new GLX. NO
PROBLEMS.... The Saab sits in the driveway unfortunately only driven on
weekends...... But to answer your question mine doesn't do it, noticeably
enough....

Sorry for rambling, I just don't want to hear of bad transmissions.......
