On the other hand, nothing (in any consumer/company relationship, not just
with cars) can match having a great relationship with the company you
bought the product/service from.

I expect excellent service from any VW dealer, but I can depend on it at
the dealer I bought it at because I am cool to them, and they are cool to
me.

Build a relationship, and both of you will be happy. If you can't build a
relationship, you've bought your car at the wrong place. I'll spend $500
more at a dealership where I am known and recognized, rather than being Mr.
VW Joe Blow at another dealership where I save $500.

I probably didn't pay the least out of all 97 GLX owners, but I sure did
get a great deal. I know the sticker price doesn't mean you'll get any
better or worse service, but that combined with a positive attitude will
pay off.

I also happen to agree with people who are tired of hearing Don rant and
rave about how his job sucks. Fact is that the customer service reps and
the technicians at my dealer are happy, cheerful, and always glad to assist
and see me.

If he's having a bad experience at his dealer, he should quit and go
somewhere else where his talents (I don't dispute his talents!) are
appreciated better.

What would you all say if someone came on the list and said "My GLX sucks.
The quality sucks, the workmanship sucks, the performance sucks, I think
the car is a piece of crap." Well, I would like to think that most of us
don't think the quality sucks. We got quality, workmanship and performance
of a car that has a retail price under $25,000. The people who are
complaining are having a NON-TYPICAL experience. Again, I don't doubt their
experience, I just don't share their experience. What I'm getting at is
that of all the VW Master Technicians that I have met, all of them have
been much more upbeat and positive about VW and being a technician at VW,
that I have to attribute some of Don's bitching to Don's situation, rather
than at VW at large.

I value Don's opinion, but it'd be a little easier to stomach if it was a
little more sugarcoated.

As far as what I've written, it's my opinion, and if you don't like it,
tough. Now let's get back to discussing our cars, what we like about them,
and what we would like to change that we don't quite like about them (like
my crappy Eagle GA's-- the rain sure is bringing out how much they suck!)
