I don't know how much you would like to spend on this little project, but...
There are suction cups made to mount cameras to cars that just clip on the side
of the car (or any flat surface).  I occasionally need them for work so we have
rented them before.  When we rent them they are usually about $20 for a week.
You can also purchase one for about $79.  The product is just a 6" suction cup
with a stud mount that you can attach anything to.  The 6" suction cup model
will support up to 75lb of weight (though I am not sure that I would put that
much on one, it will certainly support the low weight of a consumer hi8 camera).
