RE: SonicsCentral.com Brent Barry Scouting Report

I see things differently than Ravi, and think Barry is a really good
player. Efficient, cerebral, and shows heart in games I've watched.

He's unbelievably efficient for a pg, sg or sf (fg .497, 3fg .440, ftfg
.838), which is what I loved about the 80's C's. Our current guys could
be influenced by this.

After Gary left, he showed leadership in summer league and regular
season. He was the only vet taking time to attend the summer league in
street clothes and was pointing out game situations to Ridnour the whole
time. He'd be good for Marcus(more clout and more of a mentor than
James/Jiri). On court he verbally directed halfcourt traffic, not
deferring to people, and led the team in assists/steals last year.

He's gotten upset when the Sonics were losing this year and tried to
rally them. Minutes were consistent and plentiful in games I've seen
(he's one of their leaders in minutes played), and Daniels is getting
more minutes now because Barry has been hurt then went on the IL.

I'll agree Barry's never been as aggressive or used his athleticism like
a Ricky Davis or Desmond Mason(he has a more oldschool style), and his
defense is average. But in some tendex ratings a while back he's always
rated with Kirilenko with one of the higher scores in the league, and
the writer's claim he's underated.

He's well worth Mills+Blount or even better Mills+James(average
size/talented pg's like James can be found in minor leagues and
college).

Yes, I've seen a lot of Barry.

In any event, he is a guy that leaves me shaking my head in frustration.
He is very, very gifted on the offensive end and does understand the
game like Jiri Welsch while bringing more athleticism to the court but
he just doesn't have the drive or passion to excel and is not one to
bring it every night.

All you gotta do is ask yourself, if he is the on-court leader, why is
it that his minutes are so inconsistent, especially given that fact the
coach is so desperate for leadership from someone on his team?
