This is being blown way out of proportion by the media. Of course,
Ryan didn't mean what he said literally. Byron Scott is a crybaby,
for calling for Ryan's resignation.
Scott is just taking advantage of any opportunity to gain a mental edge on Boston. The Boring Broadsheet's response is equally predictable. No wonder their columns are so watered down. In retrospect, it's amazing that Ryan's line calling Antoine a punk a while ago got past El Globo's censo....err, editors. Maybe they fell asleep on that one, and nowadays are much more vigilant in their quest for inoffensiveness. It's too bad, because Ryan was the least self-censored of all the BB scribes, and I'll miss his columns on the Celtics and the NBA in these playoffs. Everybody knew (well, those who had no agenda not to) what Ryan meant, and I'm guessing most Celtics fans agreed with his assesment of Mrs. Kidd. However, in the current climate, when the abrogation of the constitutional rights of Americans is going full speed ahead in the form of USA PATRIOT act, it is little wonder that the freedom to say what you think is fast disappearing as well.

Did O'Brien call for Kenny Smith's
resignation when on Inside the NBA he said that Antoine should
have been smacked for celebrating during game 6 against the
Pacers?
See, that's just boyz from the 'hood talking. If Tolbert or Ainge had said something like that, they'd be fired during the next commercial break. Similarly, Ryan's comments are made into some sort of a gender, or maybe even gender/racial thing. It's sensitized even more by the fact that she HAS been slapped around by her own dear husband. The interview with Jason Kidd was high comedy - a wife beater asked what he thinks of someone else's comments about smacking his wife. He could barely conceal his incredulous smile - "you guys are asking ME what I think about that?! Well, haven't I SHOWN what I think about that, instead of merely talking about it?". This whole incident is regrettable in so many ways.
