Draft thoughts
I will check in and say that I think the Cs did quite well on draft night.
They got a point guard and a center, two of the positions that are the most
hard to fill.
They saw a player they wanted in Banks and went and got him versus waiting
around and watching some other team come and take him.
They drafted to fill needs on the team so the players drafted should actually
play.
Did you notice that all the players taken have NBA bodies? Ainge really seems
to have noticed that we didn't have any players with muscles on the team.
I would like to hear some Ainge comments on Hunter. Here is a guy who entered
the draft last year but withdrew. Can he be a Popeye Jones kind of player, a
reserve power forward who is short but just has that knack and body for the
rebounding? (Josh said he led the league in rebounding this year. I think he was
the strongest guy at the Chicago camp). They haven't mentioned him much and
I know he was a late second round pick but I am hopeful that we got a steal
here. I would like to hear Ainge's line of thinking about trading Songaila. Was
it to get Hunter? Are they expecting him to go overseas for a year?
Again, I think Ainge did a real nice job and I like he is thinking about
Kedrick also.
One final thought. You got three guys who Ainge is going to want to get
playing time in Banks, Kedrick and Kendrick and you got bonehead Obie who isn't
going to want to play them. That is 3 chances of disobeying the boss. What do you
want to bet that we are going have a blowup at midseason between Ainge and
Obie? One way around that is for Ainge to trade Walker and change the dynamics
(but I would like to try and see how these guys work together, providing Obie
can do it)....
