The report of a Best signing was premature. Best wanted more money than
Danny was willing to give - around the 1.4M he got last season vs the
veteran's minimum Danny was offering. And while it might seem that Danny
was awfully quick to turn elsewhere (also, there was an article suggesting
James may have been Danny's primary target all along FWIW), I wouldn't
underestimate the impact of people remembering what happened last summer
when we waited on Best, he went elsewhere and we were stuck with no other
real PG available.
