BOSTON (Ticker) - The Boston Celtics, looking for
backcourt help, on Friday signed free agent guard Mike
James, who spent the past two seasons with the Miami
Heat.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

James averaged 7.8 points and 3.2 assists in 78 games
for the Heat last season. He scored a career-high 20
points in a 91-89 loss to Dallas on March 7.

James went undrafted out of Duquesne in 1998 and
played in Europe for three seasons before signing with
the Heat as a free agent in July 2001. He was waived
prior to the start of the campaign and spent that
season with Rockford of the CBA before re-signing with
Miami on December 18, 2001.
