Re: Tales of a former All-Star
<Why can Battie and Williams set up on the block, get the ball and make a
play, yet Baker can't?
It's the same players making the entry passes. The only difference is the
guy they are making the passes to.
Trying to blame his teammates or the coach just doesn't wash for me because I
see them trying to get him going and I see HIM failing.>
This dog doesn't hunt but I will give you partial credit. Battie has always
had trouble posting up because of his lack of bulk. To make conclusions based
on two plays is just....well, you know better than that. EWill like PP and
Walker most of the time don't get the ball on the box. They have to come out
to get the ball to the mid or full wing position. It is difficult to get the
box position. Many times it is achieved by someone setting a pick for you
earlier. Baker tries to keep his position as close as he can to the box and
keep his guy pinned and bends over and reaches for the ball where the other
Cs will leave the box position to receive the ball. This is why the same pass
can make a difference between two different players. A legitimate point guard
knows the right time and right place where each player wants the ball. Pretty
straight forward BB stuff.
I will give you partial credit in that I don't know why in these lean times
that Baker won't give up his position to get the ball and then back his guy
into post. Maybe Baker was taught to get the box position and maintain it and
the point guard will get to the ball at the right time so all you have to do
is spin, fadeaway and you got a high percentage shot. I remember Baker of
yesteryear for his brilliant footwork. He had some great spin moves and could
finish so well with the long arms. All we see now is the windup and the
resulting block. He is getting worse and worse every game. I can believe that
Vin could have lost some hops and may not hustle. But I can't believe he
could unlearn that great footwork.....
