Mmmm, immediate thought when they announced it at the game was 'did Red die?'.
Anyway, Steve- you left off the key one, especially in the face of Dan's crack: not just playoff contributions but actual playoff MVP to a degree that consensus is they have one of those banners directly and specifically because of Max putting them on his back. On any other team such a person would be the only number retired without question. There's also a pretty general belief that he's a classic Celtic in that he was a great player who'd undoubtably have much flashier stats and could have been the star on another team if he hadn't been willing to take a back seat to the incoming front court stars for the good of the team.
