Re: Maxwell's number is going up

Dan, I honestly think this is the last number to be retired by the
Celtics, until/unless PP has a full career here. A sentimental favorite to me
would be Danny Ainge, because he epitomized Celtics pride/hustle (I think he
still resents being traded). Let's face it: MAx would have been retired many
years ago, had he not been in Red's dog house (wonder if he will show for this
night). Criteria? Dunno, ubt I suspect tough, gritty play, over an extended
period of time and contributing to Celtics championships, which were more the
norm, prior to '86. I just recall Max often getting the C's going in the
opening minutes of the game with 7 of the first 10 or 5 of the first 9 by down
low high percentage shots. If Chief took a back seat to Mchale and Bird, then
Max really sacrificed his game for the good of the team. Heshut down Dr J,
BErnard King and of course the Lakers! Offense, defense and toughness. It has
always bothered me that Reggie Lewis had his number retired while MAx (who
contributed to two title teams) did not. Just for fun, I have included both
players stats below.
