McCarty's still a perplexing individual, How many 6'10" guys can dribble,

Yeah, he's supposed to be a really nice guy and plays like someone you WANT to root for, but...Walter's immensely frustrating. What seems pretty clear to me is that he's someone whose athleticism and attitude and even his basketball skills are MILES advanced on his basketball sense. Thought so during the Pitino years when things were made even worse by everyone needing a serious clue hunt, and thought even more so when his play improved after having had a few clues installed by O'B and the rest of the coaching staff following some extensive time on the bench. It's an assumption on my part with Walter, but a fair one I think from what I saw with him and more generally based on something I've said before about a key difference between the Cs under RP and the Cs under O'B - under RP they played like a team that had merely been told and screamed at about what to do and maybe even punished for not doing it until they'd lost whatever sense they had but still didn't 'get it', while under O'B they play like a team that's been coached and drilled and knows what they're supposed to do most of the time, whether or not they actually do it. The epiphany hit the first time I watched them properly execute an actual inbounds play under O'B and realized I'd never seen them do that most basic of basics under RP.

Anyway, back to Walter. He's too thin to play a real inside banger game, of course. But I remember when he first started here seeing him make use of his quickness to eel around the post occasionally for some nice little bunnies that we could badly use now. More than the damned 3s IMO, as it would also keep him in better rebounding position. If I thought he'd try to develop more of that and they could figure out a way to bulk him up a bit without losing the quickness on defense...

Somewhat similar to John Wallace who has never really been able to display
what he did at Syracuse.
Haven't paid enough attention to Wallace. He came out with talk of attitude problems as I recall. What's been the big problem there do you think?

A key decision is do we move Anderson to get some youth or wait until his
contract expires to go after Duncan? Would we really have a shot? Chicago
had huge cap room and could get any top name free agents.
Duncan would look so pretty on this team it would bring tears to my eyes, but I honestly don't think we've a chance. A better one than a year or so ago when we looked like loserville was going to be around for a while but still pretty unlikely IMO. And that's before even getting into luxury tax issues.

My proposal for marked improvement next year (you have to realize first that I really hate playing virtual GM and so am unlikely to propose trades) involves Kenny or a really good replacement. Embrace the fast break. The fast break is your friend. Seriously. A real break, not just running up the court to take a jumper, which is as close as we usually come now although more often we just walk it up. But a full break advancing the ball by passing, taking it to the hoop and finishing and DRAWING FOULS. Before the defense sets up and before our lack of movement without the ball leads to another too easy turnover/bad shot. Pierce and as wingman would get him a lot of easy baskets and a lot less physical beating. Ditto Battie or Eric Williams as trailer. Walker leading or coming in off the wing the same. While the easy hoops inside would build overall team confidence, I THINK would start getting the refs to start giving the Cs more fouls (which they're never going to get as primarily a 3 point team) and get them enough points that they'd have more margin for error elsewhere. They've got the youth and speed and passers and slashers. Use them.
