FWIW, I don't know how much play this news got over here, 
but three pretty respected soccer players (Ronaldo, 
Christian Vieri and Alvaro Recoba) volunteered to take 5 
to 10% paycuts from Inter Milan after details of their 
salaries (reportedly 4 to 5 million per year) were 
reported in the Italian press. Strange but true. 

And each of these three guys can say with a straight face 
that a billion people have watched them play in a game.
  
The thing is that Inter and a lot of clubs are losing 
money right now. Even in Spain, Barcelona had to cut 
Rivaldo from the team for salary reasons.
