ESPN reported that NBA ref Dee Kantner was fired. She says she's "stunned"
and refutes the grading system that ranked her the worst official in the league last season.

She may have something there--I'd have bet money that Violet Palmer was worse.

Odds are, Dee will sue. Furthermore, she's likely to get one of two things when she does--1. her job back, 2. a lot of money, or 3. both.
What makes you say that? Though she "refutes" the grading system, that may not be an "actionable issue" as my lawyer friends say. The reports I heard said that she never received much feedback as to her performance, and tried to improve on things that were brought to her attention. She may have better luck using that argument. At any rate, it'll be hard to overcome the fact that she was the last-ranked ref out there, and if the league can't fire the worst ref, then what can they do? I agree that Violet Palmer was worse, though. And by far, I thought. What do I know, though? I think Steve Javie is a terrible official.

And just to be clear, it's not about Kantner and Palmer being women.
With you, Bird. The problem is that we don't know if that's true with others, such as anyone who registered a complaint or with the league powers that be.
Sigh. I wish I knew how I felt about this. She wasn't the worst ref I've ever seen, she wasn't the best. Which raises some questions in my mind about the basis for her being judged the worst ref in the league. While as a woman I usually have mixed feelings about this sort of discrimination lawsuit where things are not clearcut anyway. There's always a certain element of damned if you do/damned if you don't whether you win or lose. And I don't want her keeping her job just because she's female anymore than I want her losing it for the same reason.

Ah well, makes a change from worrying about Rodney's future ; )
