I live in Tempe and see every Suns game(either @ America West or on Suns
TeeVee Net.) and I have concluded that Jake was a nice pickup. I really
question his worth in comparison to the machinations the Suns had to go
through just to draft him then the after draft muck (2 court challenges
*Won both* , legal fees and payoffs *to his former team*) and if they will
ever equate to his level of talent.
I am not a talent evaluator (or play one on TeeVee!) like Pete Newell but
my take is that Jake is a competent backup but not much more than that at
present. He will improve but in my estimation not to star status any time
soon. My housemate thinks otherwise and I quote him "Jake is the best big
man the Suns have had since Alvin Adams". I respect my friends hoop
knowledge but I will regardless be checking his Lucky Charms for signs of
tampering!! Sorry I just don't see it. He is a nice kid and very active in
the community and for Suns charities and while I like him I just don't hold
his talent level as high as others. Heck I was wrong about Sean Marion as
I thought he would be good but not the star and team leader he has
blossomed into since his arrival! So take what I say with a grain of salt!!
As always ...just my thoughts and YMMV. Later.Mike
P.S. Yes I would be happy if he was a member of the green. The question is
this would the current Celtics owner put out the added dollars that the
Colangelos did in acquiring "Big Jake"??
