Joe, I agree. Call me crazy (pause for effect), but I would've taken
Pierce over Carter in their rookie years, and I still would. I just
think Double P will be better in the long run. Carter sure has
offensive talent, but is not a very good defender. Carter started to
impress me when he developed an outside shot, but he's not as good as
the hype (there's a shocker), nor is the discrepency between he and
Pierce as big as many think.
Carter got a lot of kudos because his team was better last year
(that's fine), and also because it seems many fans privilege the
Sportscenter highlights over the complete game (which isn't). Is
Carter the better player right now? Yes, but that's often based on
the highlights or the hype for many people. Everything in sports is
exaggerated: Carter is the "next Jordan", and such. He got annointed
in his rookie year -- same as Harold Miner.
