Oh man, that jam! Pierce is so incredibly quick, it still takes me by
surprise sometimes. Battie had "rebounded" an airball 3-pointer by
Antoine, and passed it out to Pierce just beyond the 3 point line near
the sideline and halfcourt, so there wasn't much time left on the 24-
second clock. Pierce started to drive past the defender toward
the lane where 2 other defenders cheated over toward him to cut him off,
so he completely changed direction, dribbling behind his back, and I
thought, "OK, he's going to stop and pop for a 12 footer before the
defender gets back in his face". Next thing you know, with hardly any
momentum built up, he took 2 huge quick steps and jammed it! I couldn't
believe he got to the basket so quick. I had to watch the game on tape
and I must have played that one over about 8 or 9 times, slo mo and
everything.
