Peter May in his Globe Sunday column will say:
"Don't be surprised if the Celtics make a move for (Derrick)
Anderson,
who could fit in well and played for Pitino at Kentucky. They only
have
the middle class exception to offer, but Anderson may have to
settle
for that." May says Anderson along with Taylor were two Clipper
players who desperately wanted to be traded, but it didn't happen.
I could see a sign and trade happening. Think the Clipps would
be interested in Antoine and the C's lottery pick for Anderson and
the Clippers first pick?
On Forston, Peter says, that he certainly went from being
disposable
to indisposable in a hurry, and he has no chance of getting
Tony Battie -- $25 million -- money on the open market, because
there are only three teams: Chicago, Clippers, and Orlando with
money to spend and they will be looking for bigger booty. I
believe that Indiana and Houston will have some free loot
available, so May could be partially wrong about there
being a very limited market for the Fort's service. Nevertheless,
May probably correctly states that Fortson is a:
"middle-class exception waiting to happen. That's not fair.
But that's life. He may take a little less for guaranteed
minutes, something he will never have in Boston. But if he's
in it for the dollars, the Celtics may be his best - and only -
shot."
May's says knowing this, he finds it difficult to understand why
the C's felt they couldn't re-sign him, especially since they
hadn't
even discussed his contract with Fortson's agent Raymond
Brothers, whom May holds culpable for not knowing the NBA
market and wanting Battie-type numbers for his client.
Perhaps that's why? Maybe they thought his agent was
going to hold out for that type of money.
In other notes, May has Pitino quoted as saying the C's aren
far away, as he likes the club, and they just need to get a
little more athletic and better defensively. And that by no
trades, Pitino has decided to sleep in the bed he made.
It's Patience and Perseverance time for the C's as the new
CBA and upcoming luxury tax limits player movement.
