the General Managers
September 6, 1999, GM.
The Spectrum
How can we pick apart the General Managers of multi-million dollar
professional franchises? They're paid hundreds of thousands a dollar a
year for nothing? Of course not. They know which buttons to press on
that little 28 number speed-dial cellular phone. You think that's
easy?
Okay, okay, so some of these guys aren't all that bright. One on hand
you have your Jerry Colangelos, while on the other you have your Elgin
Baylors. So here's looking at this year's deals from the other side of
the spectrum… through the eyes of GM.
The Good, the Bad, and the Magic

Boston: They got much better. I'll reiterate; they have gotten a lot
better. Fortson finally gives them the inside presence they've needed
for so long and finally Pierce and Walker can have that ball all to
themselves without Mercer taking shots he knows he can't make. Cheaney
is a good pick-up too. The team has some decent potential and
hopefully they'll be smart enough to keep their pick in next year's
draft. Another PG or C would certainly help.
