What a lovely little post this one is. You know....I've been reading the
quotes/ comments from Pierce and Pitino, the story about Pierce's "crying"
and by the way, if you watch the Pacers game closely you can see him
"weeping/pouting" on the bench, and Vecsey's comments about Pierce's change
in priorities (Anybody care to guess what that means?) and I've been
wondering what the responses would be on this list if it were Walker. Let
me suggest one thing about Pierce...and I could be wrong, but what the
hell. I'm going to guess that Pitino talked about putting him on IR because
he wanted to motivate him. In other words, if Pierce is playing like crap,
with no intensity, because of his ankle, then he sits down. If his ankle is
not a problem...then wake up and stop feeling sorry for yourself - crying -
and start playing. This "crying" thing is a little disconcerting. I could
say that after Vince Carter wiped the floor with him he's tanked it because
the entire motivation for Pierce's early season, let's say exhuberant and
energetic play, was Rookie of the Year "I'll show them" honors...not about
getting wins. Or maybe the Carter outburst had nothing in particular to do
with it...and it's as simple as the losing streak. When the losses piled
up...he couldn't handle it because Pitino made it clear he didn't give a
crap about the "Rookie of The Month." Very quickly because I have to
go...There was a quote in today's...was it the Globe?...from Pitino who
said something about seeing who handles the losses, how well they handle
the losses and who can't. The first person I thought of was Pierce. Nice
post Joe. I was thinking the exact same things you were. Come on
guys...it's obvious...the signs are there...Pierce needs to grow up...stop
thinking about his stats and becoming "Rookie of the Year"...stop crying
about constructive criticism....and toughen up. But...I'll at least admit
that....I could be wrong. maybe it's Walker's fault. He just needs to pass
the ball. Oh...in the second and third quarters...Mercer goes 3-9, yes? I
wasn't going to check his trurnovers over that time...too painful. Walker
needs to pass the ball to Mercer...and watch him score those tough critical
baskets. It's spring in the northwest and Greg and I are wondering where
all this light outside came from. I'm outside before it starts raining
again.
