Looky what I found

Here are Dwayne Schintzius' career averages as of March 97, the last season he
played. It's at:

http://espn.go.com/nba/profiles/stats/avg/0300.html

For those of you who don't have internet access, the gory details are this:

His career best in minutes per game is 10.6, with New Jersey in 1994.

His career best in games played is 43, also with Jersey in 95.

His career best in ppg is 3.8, as a rookie with San Antonio in 91. He played
9.5 mpg backing up Robinson.

His career best in bpg is .8, the following year (when he was with
Sacramento). He played 12.1 mpg.

His career best in rpg is 3.6, that same year.

He is a carer 63% free-throw shooter. His career FG % is 40.8.

Um, on the bright side, he never fouled out of a game.

Leo has got to be kidding us here. The guy has bounced around 5 teams. Even if
you combined the best of all these stats, he would give us 10 minutes a game,
little better than 3 points and 3 boards, and block less than 1 shot. My
grandmother could do better than that. First John Williams, now Schintzius.
Who's next, Mel Turpin? Yinka Dare? I think Pitino's already got one major
reclamation project with Battie.

I hope we can find better places to spend the money we have left: the $1
million exception, the $1.75 million exception and the $1.4 mil to replace
Perv. I've been looking over the remaining list of FA centers, and it's pretty
uninspiring: Bill Wennington, Joe Kleine, Stanley Roberts, Cherry Parks, Danny
Schayes (god help us), Benoit Benjamin (ditto), Alton Lister. But there's one
name that could work: Olden Polynice. The Kings won't re-sign him if they land
Divac; he's long in the tooth (35) and has a problem-child reputation, but in
20 mpg last year he averaged 8 points and better than 6 boards (and .6 blocks,
same as DQ). He's also 7 feet, 250 pounds. There may be competition for him,
but I doubt people will be offering more than the exception; if we could land
him, he would have to be a better option than Schwintzius, as well as an
insurance policy for Battie.

Pitino's boy Mark Pope is also a FA, and I doubt Larry will re-sign him. But
he is basically the same size as Battie (6'10, 235) and his numbers last year
weren't too impressive (7 mpg, 1.4 ppg, .9 rpg, .2 bpg). Still, it wouldn't
surprise me to see RP look in his direction.

If we're looking for 3 point specialists or backup PGs, here's what we have to
choose from: Drew Barry, Corey Beck, Anthony Johnson, DeJuan Wheat and a bunch
of other guys so uninspiring I don't even wanna talk about them. Rick will
probably sign some veteran vagabond (Scott Brooks?) or maybe, as many here
would like, Jeff Sheppard. I think Eric Murdock will be out of our league,
which is too bad since he was on our roster last year before Pitino cut him &
he landed in Miami. The Raptors are likely to re-sign Alvin Williams. A guy
like God Shammgod would probably be too much a risk (32% fg & last year,
almost a 1:1 assist/TO ratio).
