New rumblings

ESPN's Mitch Lawrence sez this: "The Kings have told Michael Stewart to find a
new team as they make a run at free agent Vlade Divac." Sacto, however,
apparently would have to renounce Corliss Williamson to do this.

He's also reporting that Rick Fox is going to re-up with LA for the $1.75 mil
exception. That seems strange to me, since Fox was believed to be wanting
more, and since Atlanta was supposedly ready to throw a pile of money at him.
Another place where many folks thought Fox would land is in Toronto, since
he's one of two Candians in the league -- part of why the Raptors traded
Billups was supposedly to clear cap space for Fox. If he's staying put, that
would give them even more dough to spend on Michael Stewart.

Also, in case anyone was wondering, the salary cap exception can be used for
more than one year. (I had raised this question in an earlier post.) They're
still trying to haggle out how many years, but it will be at least three. IMO,
that makes it a more attractive option for a big man or quality backup
point/trey specialist we might want to court. We CAN'T, however, combine it
with the $1.4 mil we'll get to replace Pervert -- I believe that is also a
one-year-only type of deal.

(I am spending an inordinate amount of time on line these days. Is your eye
supposed to be red and scratchy?)
