I get a kick out of Mark Estepp's
interpretation of David Stern "saving"
the NBA. It reminds me of a scene in
John Steinbeck's novel "Of Mice & Men"
when one character mailiciously pushed
his retarded companion into the river as
a mean joke then, feeling guilty, pulled
him out. The retarded man  didn't know
the joke was on him and sincerely
thanked his "friend" for saving him.

David Stern pointed a gun at the season
and when he didn't fire, he "saved" it.
I saw a cartoon once where a man had
pointed a gun at himself and told his
wife, "Don't laugh, you're next."
