I agree, but the Kobes are becoming far less
exceptional.  Here's a list of instant superstars just
in the last few years: (and BTW, Michael Jordan had
hall of fame written on him from the first month of
his rookie season on.)

Mr. Tim Duncan
Mr. Kevin Garnett
Mr. Shaquille O'Neal
Mr. Vince Carter
Mr. Paul Pierce
Mr. Grant Hill
Mr. Jason Kidd
Mr. Penny Hardaway
Mr. Alan Iverson
etc. 

and i would put pierce in there too.
