can use a good hoops fix with this stupid Lockout looming over our butts.
So I give you via Classic Sports Network The Larry Bird Exemption (To The
Lockout anyway!!) this Sunday Read on McDuff!!

                                     An ESPN Classic
                                   Special Presentation.
                                  Sunday, September 27th

It’s not a National Holiday, but it oughtta be. On Sunday,
September 27, ESPN Classic brings you "Larry Bird
Day," honoring the former Boston Celtics’ star on the
eve of his induction into the basketball Hall of Fame.
Teeming with 18 hours of Larry Legend’s most
memorable moments, this marathon of games and shows
spans Bird’s entire pro career, from his first NBA Finals
          to his last great game:
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 11:00
          AM
                           Houston Rockets at Boston Celtics
                           1981 NBA Finals, Game 1
As a rookie, Bird returned the once-invincible Celtic franchise
back to
the playoffs. By his sophomore season, Bird makes his first
appearance
in the NBA’s Championship series. Bird teams with Robert Parish,
Kevin McHale, Cedric Maxwell and Tiny Archibald to take on the
league’s best rebounder, eventual 2-time MVP Moses Malone.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 1:00 PM

Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers
                           1984 NBA Finals, Game 4
Beginning with the 1979 NCAA Finals, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson
faced each other 38 times in their legendary rivalry. The line: Bird
averaged 23.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists; Magic Johnson
averaged 20.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 12.3 assists (Magic, however,
won 23 of the games). Not until their fifth season in the league,
though,
did this historic pairing go head to head in the NBA Finals.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 3:30
          PM
                           Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks
                           March 12, 1985
Sometimes a player is so spectacular that even his opponents
watch in
amazement, as the outcome of the game becomes secondary. This game
          is Bird at his best.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 5:30
          PM
                           Sweet Sixteen
                           The 1985-86 Championship Season
On the heels of his 3rd consecutive MVP Award, Bird and his band of
Future Hall of Famers faced Ralph Sampson and Akeem (he didn’t add
the "H" to his name until 1991) Olajuwon, the most successful
deployment of a "Twin Towers" line-up to date. Relive Boston’s most
recent Championship run with a team many proclaim to be the best
of all
          time.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 6:30
          PM
                           Detroit Pistons at Boston Celtics
                           1987 NBA Eastern Conference Finals,
                           Game 5
With the game on the line, never count out Larry Bird.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 8:45
          PM
                           Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics
                           1988 NBA Eastern Conference
                           Semifinals, Game 7
Officially, each team had five players on the court. But by the
fourth
quarter, Bird and Dominique Wilkins were engaged in possibly the
greatest game of one-on-one in NBA history.
          Sunday, Sept. 27, 10:45
          PM
                           Indiana Pacers at Boston Celtics
                           1991 NBA Eastern Conference First
                           Round, Game 5
After slamming his head against Boston’s parquet floor, Larry Bird’s
return to the game was reminiscent of Willis Reed’s heroics in
the 1970
NBA Finals. But Bird’s recovery was overshadowed by a crunch time
duel with Chuck Person marked by sharp shooting and sharp words.

                           February 4, 1993
Our archives are so crammed with great Bird material that our
marathon
is headed into overtime. Sunday’s "Larry Bird Day" spills into
Monday
as Boston’s hero is honored by family, friends and fans in a
ceremony
filled with great highlights and greater stories. A memorable
visit by
friend and rival Magic Johnson steals the show.
          Monday, Sept. 28, 2:45
          AM
Portland Trail Blazers at Boston Celtics
                           March 15, 1992
In a wild overtime thriller against Clyde Drexler and his Blazers
squad
bound for the NBA Finals, Bird gives the Boston Garden faithful
one last
hurrah. We wind up our Larry Bird Marathon with Larry Legend’s last
          show-stopping performance.
