   Jordan actually didn't want to go play baseball, if you remeber he had some
   big gambling troubles right before he went to play baseball.  I think a deal
   was struck between MJ and the league where he would go step away from the
   game for a bit instead of being suspended, because there is no way the
   league could afford to suspend its star, and Jordan couldn't afford the
   smudge on his image.

P.S.  Of course this is all just rumors, but I've read some things on the
Internet about this in the past and it all seemed to make sense.
