the void

I think that the celtics should fill the void in the middle with 2 players. Go
with the best FA you can afford which would probably be a forward--if you can
get McDyess--do it--put him at PF and AW at SF. From what I saw, McDyess did
pretty well against the two-headed monster in SA--Robinson and Duncan. Then get
a 2nd tier center--not Divac--but a Divac type--a guy who can play hard but who
isn't top shelf and who can fit into Pitino ball--which by the way is only
evolving at this point. Of course you've got to sew up AW and Mercer, and along
with Anderson, we're ready to make a run. There's a lot of solid journeymen who
can fill a role like Wedman,Don Nelson, and whoever else you care to name did
(DQ, Barros, who else might fit from the current squad?) and in the post-Jordan
NBA we've got a solid shot at the next ring within 2 yrs.

If McDyess is not an option I still like the idea of getting the best available
FA--not to fill a position--but the best available period--treat it like the
draft and then supplement the hole in the lineup with a 2nd tier player. I
subscribe to the 3 allstar theory--but no one ever said it had to include a
center.

On a nonceltic note while in Chicago seeing the Stones last week, I had a fun
conversation with a cabbie. We went round and round and while he agreed with me
about the 86 team being able to beat any Chicago team, I agreed Jordan is the
best all around player. But the best part of the conversation was when I asked
him who he'd rather have--Wilt or Shaq?
