The Celtics had talked about trading this pick because they didn't think there would be a player they liked available. They have to be pleasantly surprised to get Pierce, who many people think has the best scoring ability in this draft. Pierce gives Boston three outstanding athletes, along with Ron Mercer and Antoine Walker. If the Celts can land a top-flight center in free agency, they could be the league's most improved team next season. This is a steal for the Celtics -- some experts thought Pierce would go as high as No. 2.
