Chris Wallace On The Draft

Celtics GM Chris Wallace spoke to the Boston Herald's Steve Bulpett
about the draft, and here's what he had to say:

On Their Second Round Pick

"'I definitely don't think we'll have it... Because of the trades we made with New
York and Vancouver, they have first choice on the pick. If New York doesn't want it,
Vancouver can take it. We're third in line for our second-round... The thing is, New
York or Vancouver don't have to announce whether one of them wants it or not until
about ten days before the draft.'"

On The Possibility Of Trading Their First Round Pick

"'And there's always the chance we could make a trade with our pick. We could go
north or south in this thing, and if we trade to a lower spot, then we'll be looking
at players more in line with what's here in this camp'" (Chicago pre-draft camp).

On The Importance Of The Chicago Pre-draft Camp To The Celtics

"'Our guy at 10 probably won't be here, but you have to keep an eye on who's going to
pole vault their way up in the draft.'"

Steve Bulpett noted in the article, that since the "Celtics hierarchy" is going to be
in Chicago during the camp, they plan on meeting with Antoine Walker too, besides
laying the usual groundwork for possible trades and evaluating talent.

One interesting thing Bulpett said, was the C's "could well be surprised to find the
level of player available this summer, though with the collective bargaining issues
still undecided, an idea of what they'd be willing to pay a newcomer is tough to pin
down."
