THE LAST BANNER

In one of the interviews with Larry last week he was asked about the '86
team. He said he felt that team was the best ever, that they could have
beaten the 90's teams easily. They felt that they could beat any team,
any night. Coincidentally, I remember during the playoffs that year,
one of the announcers saying, as the camera scanned the Celtics bench,
they were 12 deep. How many teams now can say that?

On another note, I think maybe the NBA got a wake up call. If they feel
the fans are upset with the calls not made against the stars of the
game, they'll do something. As long as we're silent on the subject
they'll let it continue. It's particularly true with Jordan. He
commits many fouls in each and every game and they're seldom called. He
doesn't need that help, he's good enough without it. I've never liked
the fact that the NBA feels it has to promote certain players as the
next star coming up - the stars will be made according to their level of
play and their skills, and their ability to entertain because of those
skills. Let the fans decide who the stars are, not the NBA.

Also would like to add that Chauncy showed us last night what he is
capable of doing as he matures. I wouldn't give up on this guy yet.
We're too impatient. Yes, as Bill said, he did make a couple of goofs,
but overall he played one of the best, if not the best game I've seen
him play. I realistically expected the Celts to get mugged tonight, but
they didn't. It was a pleasant surprise. They blew a 22 point lead and
you sit there thinking it was bound to happen, given their performance
of late, but this time they pulled it out. It was very good to see.
