Boston Celtics (13-12) at San Antonio Spurs (16-10), 8:30 p.m.

The Celtics and Spurs meet for the first time  this  season.  The
two-game  series  was  split last season with each team winning
on its home floor. Boston leads the all-time series, 31-21.

Boston has won four in a row and  six  of  its  last  seven.  The
Celtics  picked  up  their  fourth straight win with a 102-96 decision
over Charlotte on Tuesday. Rookie Ron Mercer scored a  career-
high  28 points  and he grabbed eight boards. The Celtics are 3-6
away from the Fleet Center and are 2-2 versus the Western
Conference. The Celtics won their only game against a Midwest
Division team.

The Spurs are on fire as they have won  six  straight,  including
Tuesday's  91-79  victory  over  Indiana.  David Robinson poured
in 39 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Tim Duncan added 18
points and  17 boards.  San  Antonio is 11-3 on its home floor and
is 5-3 against the Eastern Conference. The Spurs are  2-1  in
games  played  versus  the  Atlantic Division.

David Robinson scored a season-high 39 points and Tim Duncan
added 18 and 17 rebounds as red-hot San Antonio won its sixth
straight game, 91-79 over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday.

During the streak, the Spurs have won by an average of 15
points a game while outrebounding their foes by 44.2-39.7
boards a game.

Rookie Tim Duncan is averaging 21.8 points, 11.8 rebounds and
2.4 blocks over his last five games for the Spurs, who have also
won seven consecutive home contests. Guard Avery Johnson has
80 assists (13.3) over his last six games.

Note:  San Antonio has beaten the Celtics seven straight times at home.

SAN ANTONIO INJURY REPORT:

Vinny Del Negro is questionable for tonight's game with the
Celtics... he suffered a right tricep tendon strain in the games vs.
Orlando on 12/13... he has missed the last four games (12/16,
12/17, 12/20 and 12/23)...

Reggie Geary was placed on the injured list on 12/12 with left
knee patellar tendinitis... he has missed the last five games...
Charles Smith is also on the injured list and is not with the team
due to osteoarthritis in his right knee... he missed the Spurs 1997
training camp, all eight preseason games and all 26 of
the team's regular season contests.
