Except Pete can insulate himself from the negative attention, at least to a point, but his fans are going to get bombarded with ridicule from the ignorant masses.  He can entirely avoid this.  The ignorant masses look only at the surface of things, such as headlines and titles.  They will not delve into subject matter and content.  Just keep the titles from inciting them, and everything will be just fine.  

Either that, or Pete needs to do some talk shows and go out of his way to explain the concept and force people to be informed.  Take the wind out of the sails of the ignorant by giving them knowledge.
