When I saw them they were of course playing their own songs and Zak had his 
own beats.  Nice and solid, but simple as you said.

If Zak could only listen to me before he laid down the tracks everything 
would be fine I'm sure.  But really, I would like him to try and sound as much 
like Keith as possible.  Kids have to hear something to make them go "Wow. I've 
never heard anything like that before!"  People need to hear something very 
unique and bombastic to get on board with this band. It is my believe that there 
MUST be a strong drum presence with a strong and unique beat to make it with a 
new audience.  

Your thought about complimenting Pete's demos correctly is a very good one.  
I bet Roger will have something to say to him and that reassures me that the 
message will be reinforced.  Roger has so much sense about the product 
delivery.
