Re: What's fair; Hendrix and Pete; Not enough the Magic Bus; John

I don't think it is fair to compare a DVD which was produced using far more time and manpower than another which was thrown on the market virtually raw straight from the soundboard.

Mc:

I do. It's not that complicated, musically. Just a guitar or two, bass and drums with a little keyboard thrown in. I can tell who's Who (and who's not).

It's on the promos for his movie Mr. Deeds just comming out on DVD

Brian:

An Adam Sandler movie is a minus point.

On the subject of Who refences lately:

Ah, Kevin Bacon does get around, doesn't he?

I really enjoyed reading this. Excellent insight. This is a great summary of
them musically.

Jon:

Thanks; I try.

I am forever grateful for Jimi Hendrix being on their label. Pete's
frustration with this partly led to his rection that far surpassed merely

There's no doubt in my mind Pete was influenced by Jimi...but not as much as Jimi was by Pete (and the others). But Pete would be the first to admit it, and also by Clapton, Richards, Dave Davies...have you seen the Jimi Hendrix movie? Pete is the first person you see.

 Thanks Mark...

Greg:

My pleasure.

I would be most interested if this version IS remastered or not.

I've checked with my source, and he said it is NOT remastered OR a US release, but a leftover Canadian release. Why it has the 2000 date, and a 1999 date on the Tower Records website, is a mystery. Still good for those completists who want all the official Who CDs, and it's fairly cheap too. As Janis Joplin once said: get it while you can.

whether or not, if they used the 'better' stereo version of MB that is on
the vinyl. I have the old vinyl, but have the original release cd as well.

Yeah, the original CD has the short mono version of MB. I have it on the vinyl (but again not the CD) of MBBB.

And I would love to have that Baby Don't You Do It, that's also in my vinyl
collection and I love that version...

For the record once again, it's from the 1971 San Francisco concert which also gave us Bargain (Who's Missing), My Wife and Going Down (Two's Missing). I have it on the Rarities CD, but also on the Track single of Join Togther (bought when it was released, as well as The Relay/Wasp Man). And while we're talking about out of print stuff that's still available, Who's Missing is also on Amazon.

I'm more inclined to feel sorry for the lack of self-esteem that drove him
to make those choices, over and over until they got him.

Alan:

I wasn't aware he had that problem...he shouldn't have! The greatest bass player in the world...what does it take???

I wonder whether John too had a persona that he couldn't abandon, which
included satisfying one's desires (be it loud music, cigarettes and other
drugs, or sex) without worrying about the consequences.

One would think that Moon's example (and that of far too many others) would have shaken him out of it. A big effin' dose of reality.
