Swined by the Swine!

Oooo me garsh... Looks like I pressed a pretty heavy button here. First of
all, the opinions of this editorial do not reflect the opinions of this
station... but they do for me! All I can say here folks is - CHILL! Wow,
I've gotten more off list responses regarding me as the next antichrist but
of course a little support as well - heh, heh...

Jeff:

>All I said was that your statement was an outraegeous and a gross

>generalization.

I forgot to tell you in our off list exchange, that my statement reflects my
outrageous and gross personna... Although I do prefer picking my nose in
private.

Nicole:

>Now hold on there. The kids responsible for shooting up high schools are

>obviously mentally ill and shouldn't be grouped with teenagers as a

>whole.

I noticed that you said "high schools" - PLURAL! And now that that's
stated, I will reiterate my original statement: I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF KIDS
SHOOTING UP HIGH SCHOOLS UNTIL THIS GENERATION CAME ALONG. That still
hasn't changed whether they're mentally ill or just plain mental. Like
they're the first generation to have an identiy crisis or have been bullied
by punks. Mentally ill indeed...

>Should I

>write all adults off because a few of them decided to crash a plane into

>the WTC? I never heard of THAT happening until recently.

No, you should write off all adults who display those kind of tendencies.
Same applies for teenagers. However, it is sort of pessimistic to "write
them off". I have a kind heart. I would like to send 'em to military
school or some kind of medical experiment facility really.

>Wow. Those are some strong words there pal. Charles Manson is completely

>fucking insane

Two things my good lady: Number One: At least you know where you stand
with Charlie and I KNOW not to turn my back on him. Charlie wouldn't spit
in my bean burrito because I don't have to trust him working in a Taco Bell.
Number Two: Get a dictionary and look up the word - "sarcasm".

>I think its you that needs to get real on this one. Third Eye Blind is

>shit, pure shit. Anyone with any taste in music, young or old, can see

>that.

See Number Two above. It's spelled S-A-R-C-A-S-M, I think but I'm not sure.
I almost went to the 7th Grade spelling bee contest finals, but was kicked
out for farting on stage when it was my turn.

>And futhermore, I am eighteen

>years old and have been listening to classic rock for most of my life.

"...Please man, give us some credit. We don't all have bad taste

So why are you so pissed at me? I gave you your propers for being
educated... Maybe it's best you read my entire post instead of the stuff
that pisses you off. Here's another one to look up: C-O-N-T-E-X-T. I
mentioned younger listeners who liked decent music, so what are you bitching
at me about this for? Hey, if I'm the antichrist, I like to earn the
moniker.

>Before you make generalizations like that you should

>remember that there are teen Who fans on this very list, and we don't

>take kindly to being written off as arrogant "fuckers" who jam out to

>Britney Spears and insult any music we don't like.

And to think, if you had taken what I said in context, you wouldn't have
given your body and psyche such a jolt with all that stress... Don't you
know that stress is a killer!?! Nicole, I referred to my little Radio Army
of teenage listeners as "fuckers" because they were. I don't recall saying
"Nicole is an arrogant teenage fucker"; nope I can't take credit for that
one. Sheesh, if you are going to call me out on what I said, get it right
woman! I called teenagers "monsters", "swine", and a whole host of other
things, but "arrogant fuckers" was not one of them either. I wish I had
though; I like the sound of it.

>I thought this was

>supposed to be one big happy Who family. I guess you only are an

>acceptable Who fan if your over the age of 30 though, right? Geez.

>Nicole

It is like family. Just like in real life. You could be my sister, but if
you took the last popsicle out of the freezer and it was mine, like all
brothers and brothers, sisters and brothers, or sisters and sisters, we're
gonna go at it. That was my popsicle!!! Hands off! And since we now know
that I wasn't ragging on the younger Who fans, and that I had already made a
point of mentioning them in EACH of my ravings, and that I had also
mentioned each time that there are obviously exceptions to the general
banter, I guess I don't have to address your last shot at me. Except this:
any and ALL Who fans are okay by me. Don't worry, I'm not mad at you sister
- I just don't agree that there's any defense for the majority of teens who
think they can shit on my lawn and not clean it up. If it was a 40 year
old, he/she would just as rotten.

GenWalk:

>i fear that older who fans are turning into a group of people the who went

>against in "my generation".

Such BS. I don't care how old you are or how young you are. I call it like
I see it. Like I see it - you might see it from another angle and that's
okay. And if it's a person, a company or an age group that act like a
confederacy of assholes, then that's what I'll call them. I haven't
condemned anyone here for their opinions, so why am I being condemned? This
whole thing started because I said that today's kids won't go out and buy
anything from The Who. And they won't. NOT all teens as Nicole (and myself
previously, nyah!) has pointed out - there will be the educated few who will
buy a Who record. But EN MASSE, big numbers, Billboard type numbers of
teens won't have anything to do with The Who. I'm not a betting man by
nature, but I'll bet the farm on that one. It doesn't make me a hypocrite
for listening to My Gen because I've become what Pete was writing against.
Not in the slightest. And if/when the new record comes out, and it has
modest sales predominantly from the 25-35 age group, will I still be one of
those cynical "older" Who fans or will my prediction have been fulfilled?
Tell me, how does that philosophy doom the "my generation" generation?

>just because it just so happens alot of young people are not into what
you're

>into, dosen't mean its wrong. it dosent mean the end of the world so snap
out

>of it and deal with it.

Christ, has anyone fully read what I wrote? I mean really, if you want to
go toe to toe, fine, let's dance. But get it right will you??? Gen, I
never condemned kids for not liking The Who, and I never condemned them for
the music they listen to. Hell, they can bang old pots together and sell a
billion records, I could care less.

I condemn them for being out of control, irresponsible, lazy, disrespectful,
deceptive, non social, apathetic, hedonistic, moronic, and unaccountable.
Having bad taste in music is bad enough but with this kind of fodder, I
wouldn't waste my time ranting on their other insidious tendencies. And
Nicole, take a deep breath - this doesn't mean ALL teenagers/young adults.
Just the infinite masses of them.

Jeff:

>"Then," Janie smiled, "We'd be Creed fans."

Brilliant.

Rich:

>Jim's had some nasty teens he's had to deal

>with and its those that he remembers.

Ugh, and now you're turning on me too. Hell, I thought in our off list
exchange I told you that wasn't true. I remember them all - and I told you
that the nicer kids were the ones that stood out to me. Remember, "Hey,
it's nice to meet a teen who's not an asshole"??? I gave them credit, but
unfortunately, for every one cool kid I meet, I've met a hundred who
weren't.

Who knows, maybe I'm just feeling like everyone's turning on me. I'm not
paranoid, but everyone's out to get me!

Mark:

>I also have many, many teenaged customers and they aren't all swine or

>morons. Not even most of them.

Hey man, lucky you. Maybe I ought to move to your neck of the woods.

>> extreme "leftists" are just as bad as the extreme right.

>Whereas the extreme left, as much as you may disagree with them, are at

>least rational and logical.

Thank you for proving my point. Our side is right and the other is wrong.
I'm no mathematician, but I can see the formula in what you said. And it
equals: Stalemate.

>Oh, yeah, and the left is not attempting to force us all to act in a
certain

>way

I know, I hate those ultra conservatives who want to stifle free expression.
I also hate those ultra liberals who say it's okay to do your own thing and
other people's freedoms be damned. Hey, I want to express myself, so I'll
go shit on my neighbor's porch because it's my right, and I'll sing
McCartney's "Freedom" at the top of my lungs while doing it. I am FREE to
do as I please, with no regard for other people's freedoms!!!! Sure, that's
the alternative to being ultra conservative. And that's ultra liberal
doctrine in a nutshell.

>Instant gratification is only craved

>by those who were not parented correctly.

Wow, talk about generalizations. Instant gratification comes from people
who only care about themselves. Parenting might figure into it somewhat,
but I think the majority of people who crave instant gratification were
probably born selfish - period. Give them an internship with Mother Theresa
and they still will snake the mission box. I'm sure Hitler's parents
weren't all that bad, but some are just born bad eggs.

>Oh, and Nostrodamus was a crank.

I've since re-thought that name, and I think I'm changing to "antichrist".

>You tell `em! In the words of Ray Davies: "See the father's now the son."

Wow, how deep. Here's one in my words: "That kid is a prick. And he
earned that title through his actions."

Keets:

>(Haha. Stepped into that

>one, didn't you?) ;)

Seems like my boots are stepping into it deeper and deeper with each reply I
get...:0)

>I think permissive parenting is what you're complaining about, as opposed
to

>a rigid traditional upbringing.

That's the most intelligent reply I've heard so far m'lady. However, I
truly believe that it's a whole mass of factors that contribute to the decay
of the youth. Permissive parenting - while being very representative of the
problem, isn't the only thing.

>There are points to either side.

That's what I've been saying all along. It takes a political turn because
the "sides" your talking about are so friggin' antagonistic towards one
another, that the problem continues. And not just with teenagers! American
society in general is a mess because one side won't recognize any positive
qualities of the other side. Mark up there in this post, confirmed my
theory. Don't blame us, blame them. Stalemate...

>As I said above, I don't think politics really enters into it

Unfortunately, it does. It's a societal problem, so you must examine
society. Politicians make the laws that govern the society, so we must
include them - as much as I wish we didn't have to. I think I trust
teenagers more than I do politicians. Not matter which party. Maybe
growing up in corrupt Chicago has a little to do with my distaste for them.

>Since these parents can't implement

>their preferred method, they're often at a loss as to how to deal with
their

>children.

I don't know Keets. Could be, but much like my statement about this
generation shooting up high schools, I don't recall ever seeing a television
public service announcement informing parents to be parents until this
generation came along too. And there's a bunch out there. Downright
spooky. Today's parents (IMHO) should take credit for being pretty much the
most lost group of parents in history. I suppose considering what their
offspring have become, maybe they aren't to blame. Maybe they are. Who
knows?

  >Hey! I love Keanu Reeves films!

I know a good doctor who can help you. ;-)

>I take it you'd like to whack them?

In all seriousness, did you notice that kids seem more out of control now
that spanking them is a crime? A good smack taught valuable lessons -
consequences, obedience, and the ability to duck. Not to mention, that if I
got whacked by my dad in a case of mistaken identity (my brother did it, but
ratted me out for it), by being punished for nothing, I also learned that
life isn't fair!

My God, now all of the "child abuse" people are going to have a field day
with this... Oh how can you be so cruel to an innocent child you monster?!?
Because the little bastard just lit my house on fire! Bad parent! Bad
parent!!!! Ugh... I'm sorry, but a child hasn't the intellect to learn
lessons from experience. Sometimes a smack on the butt makes things crystal
clear. If you club your kid sister in the head with a hammer, you're gonna
get a spanking!

>Um, didn't we hear about this in Quadrophenia?

You lost me there. Where does Quad fit in with today's teenage girls
dressing like $2.00 whores? C'mon, am I the only one who's not disturbed by
the sexual permissiveness of kids today among other things? What's wrong
with you people???? Yeah, I tried getting laid when I was 13 but didn't get
there - the girls wouldn't go for it. Today, if you're 13 and haven't had
multiple partners, you're considered a square. You guys don't have a
problem with this???? We ARE doomed then...

>But, by then they'll be dealing with teens of their own, and complaining

>about how awful they are.

Ain't that the truth. And I hope GenWalk will point out their hypocrasy
too!

Jon:

>First of all, I know that you were not targeting my kids. My origional
point

>was that I know that my kids like to listen to The Who. Am I now supposed
to

>prove it? You got offended when I disagreed about kids making fun of Leeds.

>You have your experiences and I have mine. What is this list for?

C'mon Jon that's not fair. Do you say one thing to me off list and then
another on list??? You never said any such thing like this off list and I
thought we came to an "understanding". I gave you the respect of your
opinion and said so. I didn't ask for any proof, and I specifically made a
point to say your opinion IS yours and mine is mine. I didn't become
offended by anything anyone has said in reply to my ravings. Why would I?
This list is for banter exactly like we've been having and I haven't ripped
a single person for their opinions. I may have ripped the opinion, but not
the person. I just don't agree with some and some are obviously missing the
point. See "context" above. What you ask for here (freedom of opinions),
try reciprocating it. Blind-siding me dude...

>Do you have any names

>planned yet? You know, for the Beast? ;)

Well, Antichrist is taken and I'm not so vain that I'd name the kid
Antichrist Jr. I'll have to think of one. Do you think that Satan is
copyrighted?

>Believe it or not, I agree with your general observations. There is a
serious

>problem that requires a serious re-evaluation.

And I'm so glad that you're not in denial like so many others in today's
society are. Off list, you reeked of intellect! ;-) You don't have to
agree with me philosophically about any of it, but to deny that today's
teenagers are in a vile class by themselves, is complete and total denial.

>What keeps me on topic is that Pete and Roger care about kids, especially

>teenage kids. So far, they didn't get old.

Neither did I, to the sheer astonishment of some here. And that's one of
the main reasons why I love The Who. It would be interesting to hear what
they think about all of this wild, spasmatic banter. What about Ox? Do you
think he's really socially conscious, or he just wants to play? Play.

In closing Kids, why do you think that this topic won't go away? Because
it's obviously a touchy one, but real. A lot of what I've written was
harsh, no doubt, but another reason that we're so messed up in society, is
because plain language is a lost art. People don't know where they stand.
People are so fucking afraid of rattling another person's beliefs that they
simply shut up and serious issues get glossed over because we're so afraid
of unsettling someone else's delicate sensibilities. Phooey.

I know some people reading a lot of this have been quite riled up, and for
that I'm most happy. There was an old saying in regards to journalism that
said something like - you can't please everyone in an editorial piece, but
if you piss them off you've succeeded in getting people to think. And that
was my goal. To me, teenagers/young adults are a very serious problem.
They will grow up as misdirected as they are now and I'm very frightened at
that prospect. Another reason is, my wife and I will be having kids within
the next year, and I'm damn fearful of that rotten teenage attitude that's
so prevelant today. I don't want my kids growing up to be little assholes.
Nobody does.

Another thing, people who opposed my views on this list really got worked up
over my "generalizations". Bad, bad, bad. Don't forget Whofans, this list
is built on generalization, speculation, theory, and good old story telling.
Remember the next time you say - "In the 60s, everyone was into peace and
love." Folks, it don't get anymore general than that.

I think it was Groucho Marx who said, "He who is without hypocrasy, cast the
first molotov cocktail..." or somebody equally important.
