Re: Tommy on celluloid & Live At Last

Keets:

That's a little harsh. It doesn't suck. It is a product of a time period,
and therefore dated, but the story holds up and the acting isn't bad and the
music is often brilliant (I'm thinking of I'm Free for one). Yes, it's too
in-your-face but then again as Jon recently pointed out, isn't The Who the
ultimate in-your-face band?

I missed this original post, but I must disagree most strongly. I think Phil
Daniels was perfect, and the movie rates up there with Apocalypse Now in the
reality department. It's true the story is not the one on the LP, but even
so it's a damned good story and Quad is one of my 10 favorite all time
movies.

Always glad to spread a little joy during this season.

About a hundred times better than the studio version.

This is not the story I've heard. I was told MCA "didn't think it would
sell" and killed the deal. It was orginally a multi-disc set including TLAL,
then down to a two disc set one of which was to be TLAL, then nothing.
Silence. At least we eventually got TLAL out of it, but as you and I both
know well there is still enough unreleased live material of interest to
compose a four disc set if not five disc. Runaround Sue??? Please Don't
Touch? Born On A Bayou? This stuff begs for release. I was hoping the MG
would include some of the Ready Steady Go material, but it seems not. Still
that leaves the door open for more of it to be released in another form.

Now there's an idle threat. Nice try though. It could work.

Sorta reminds one of the USA, doesn't it?

Everybody save this EMail for the next US tour, so we can remind Jeff of it
when he posts a rave review of the show(s) he attended.
