It's nothing personal, and as others have mentioned, the band themselves
has nothing to do with it. It was probably the promoter's decision, which
would mean SFX. You can't expect SFX to lose a few hundred thousand if
tickets aren't selling well. As it is, you've got plenty of notice and can
hopefully make plans to see them elsewhere.

If it helps, I sympathize. I'm in Texas and they've played in this state
only twice since 1988 (two more to come --finally -- this summer). They've
played in my home town exactly once in their career, and I missed it. The
south US has never been a stronghold for The Who, unfortunately.
Travelling is required for many/most Who fans to see the band.

Also, as a veteran of a few shows in '96 and '97, I remember that those
tours were nightmares of continually shifting schedules, last-minute
cancelled or moved shows, and nearly zero publicity. Many times I heard
stories of Who fans who weren't even aware they were playing in their city
until a few days before the show. But you know, it's the shows and the fun
I remember, not the pains of getting to them. This 2000 tour is a model,
actually. Itinerary announced months in advance and out of some 20-25
dates only a couple have cancelled. You can't really expect much better
than that.

Of course it's a pain and inconvenience to go see them somewhere else, but
I really think if you start making plans now you will enjoy the show
(wherever it may be) once you get there. And with a little more planning
you may just find some listers who would be willing to help you along the
way.

I did. I'm not sure of the significance, except of course an owl features
prominently on the Whistle Rymes cover...
