Re: taboo subjects

Well since Kentavo brought it up, here's what
little I know. Here's the evidence
I've discovered and my interpretation. But
I've never partied with the man (or met him
offstage for that matter) so take these
remarks with at least a grain of salt.

The information came from an interview that
appeared in the book "Rock Lives" by Timothy
White in Nov. 1990. They were discussing
"Rough Boys" and Pete said the following:
"It's about homsexuality...an acknowledgment
of the fact that I'd had a gay life and that
I understood what gay sex was about; it was
not about faggery at all. It was about
violence in a lot of senses."

He then goes on to discuss the song "And I
Moved" saying he found a new audience,
"Not necessarily by saying 'I am gay, I am
gay,' but just by being honest about the fact
that I understand how gay people feel and I
identify. I know how it feels to be a woman
because I am a woman. And I won't be
classified as just a man."

In two other interviews Pete said he shocked
his wife Karen by revealing he'd had a
same-sex affair prior to their marriage and
that he had dabbled in the gay lifestyle
during part of the "lost weekend" of 1980-81.

So is Pete gay? As our president would say,
it depends on how you define the word gay.
My best guess is that he may have dabbled in
gay sex a few times but never had what anyone
would call a same-sex relationship or never
showed any preference for same-sex
activities. And when he says he knows what
it means to be gay or be a woman, he's
probably saying that he doesn't think of
himself as a gay or straight or male or
female-exclusive artist, not lover. So for
my money I'd have to say Pete is straight
with occassional experimentation.
