Sorry Kathleen but Diane is right although you are easily excused. Even
the booklet in the 30 Years box set got the date wrong. The chronology
of Keith's untimely demise was as follows:

Sept. 6th (around 9 or 10pm) Keith attends a party thrown by Paul
McCartney to celebrate Buddy Holly's birthday (the following day) at
Peppermint Park in London. Accompanying Keith is his fiancee Annette
Walter-Lax. They are photographed at their table with other rock stars.

Sept. 7th (Midnight) The party moves to a movie theatre where the new
film "The Buddy Holly Story" is screened.

Sept. 7th (4:30pm) Keith returns to his flat and takes a handful of
Heminevrin, pills prescribed to him to control his alcoholism and
occasional bouts of epilepsy. He and Annette get in bed and watch a
videotape of the movie "The Abominable Dr. Phibes." Keith drifts off.

Sept. 7th (7:30am) Keith wakes up and, hungry, tries to get Annette to
fix him a meal. She refuses and Keith goes into the kitchen, cooks and
eats a steak which he washes down with champagne. He then takes another
handful of Heminevrin and goes back to sleep.

Sept. 7th (4:30pm) Annette phones Dr. Geoffrey Dymond, who had
prescribed the Heminevrin, to tell him that she had found Keith dead in
the bed. He calls an ambulance. Shortly after this manager Bill
Curbishley calls Dr. Dymond (had Annette called him? The chronology is
weird here) and Dymond tells him to call Pete, John and Roger and break
the news to them. Curbishley calls Pete who began crying and then Pete
called Roger and then John and told them. John is in the middle of a
press interview when he receives the call and manages to keep his
emotions in check until a reporter asks him about the future of The Who
and he tells them that Keith has died.

Sept. 8th (early morning) the news of Keith's death crosses the
Associated Press wires in the U.S.

Hope this answers your questions.
