Re: tipper girl
Kevin,
>>> I think the entire American civil stratus owes a huge debt to Frank Zappa
for being the most prominent figure in revealing the folly of Tipper's
crusade. Without his tireless efforts, we may have seen that Fallwell-ian
idiocy succeed and actually become some sort of law.
Well said! The only problem is, that pressure is always there. And the
question is: "Who's Next?" (IF you know what I mean!)
>>> BTW: if you haven't picked up any of the Zappa redux catalog from Ryko,
slap yourself twice and go get some. I just got "One Size Fits All" and am
totally blown away. FZ approved all the masters himself, and they are
*stunning.* I hope that Ryko gets Pete's catalog to reissue. Then we might
have a chance...
You're not kiddin' about "One Size Fits All". It was the first Zappa cd
on my list of cd's to get when I started collecting them. I have almost the
entire collection of Zappa's Ryko catalog, and have only 4 criticisms:
1) On "Sheik Yerbouti", at the end of "I'm So Cute", Zappa opted for the
segue into "Jones Crusher", omitting the very quiet dialogue found on the LP:
".... did you just record that?!...."
2) On "You Are What You Is", at the end of "Dumb All Over" on the lp, there
is a guitar solo that fades out, and then on the following side, there are 4
bars of "Dumb All Over", that goes right into "Heavenly Bank Account". When
they cut the disc, they omitted the part with the guitar solo, and went
straight into the 4-bar section, to segue into "HBA". And it really is quite
weak. I just think they could have had a least a section with the guitar solo
on there, before the segue.
3) On "Sleep Dirt", there was an instrumental (I forget the title) that Zappa
added some lady singing over. I liked the instrumental, and HATE the new
vocals (which were recorded at the time, but initially not used). I think
Frank should have at LEAST offered both versions (IE, "One Size Fits All")
4) On "Live at the Fillmore", the end of side 1 on the record and the
beginning of side 2 are the same song (again, it slips my mind), and there is
supposed to be a guitar solo in the middle that was chopped out, and not
included on either side. Why didn't he include the entire track, with no fade
out (IE: ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery"!)?
Question: Did any of the most recent Ryko re-releases clear ANY of
those concerns up? (I'll bet not...)
